Scope and operator

This notice applies to stanleycyang.com, a public portfolio and technical-writing site operated by Stanley Yang. It does not govern websites linked from articles or other external services.

The site has no visitor accounts, comments, newsletter signup, contact form, checkout, advertising network, or application database. If any of those facts change, this notice will be updated before or when the new feature is introduced.

Information the site handles

Site delivery and security

Vercel hosts the site and provides DNS. When your browser requests a page, Vercel may process ordinary network and request information such as the IP address, requested URL, date and time, browser or device information, referring page, and security or diagnostic data. This is inherent in delivering and protecting a website. Vercel describes its customer-site processing in its Privacy Notice.

Aggregate web analytics

The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate page traffic. Depending on the service configuration, a data point can include a timestamp, page path and route, referrer, approximate location, operating system, browser, device type, and analytics script version. This site removes query strings and URL fragments before an analytics event is sent and does not send custom event properties.

Vercel states that Web Analytics does not associate analytics data with an individual or IP address, uses a request-derived hash rather than a third-party cookie, and discards the visitor-session identifier after 24 hours. See Vercel's Web Analytics privacy documentation.

Theme preference

The site starts in dark mode. If you change the color theme, it stores light or dark under the key stanley-themein your browser's local storage. That value stays on your device and is not sent to the site.

Email you choose to send

Email links open your own email application. If you send a message, Stanley receives the address, message, attachments, and associated email metadata you provide. The recipient mailbox is delivered through Google Workspace. Do not send secrets, credentials, or sensitive personal information that are not necessary for the conversation.

Why the information is used

• Deliver, operate, troubleshoot, and protect the site.
• Understand aggregate readership and improve useful content.
• Remember the display theme you selected on your device.
• Read and respond to messages, correction reports, and rights requests.
• Meet legal obligations and address fraud, abuse, or security incidents.

Providers and sharing

Information is disclosed only as needed to providers that support these activities, principally Vercel for hosting, DNS, security, and analytics, and Google Workspace for email. Information may also be preserved or disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce rights, or protect people and systems.

Stanley does not sell visitor information, use it for cross-site behavioral advertising, or provide it to data brokers. There are currently no paid placements or affiliate links in the writing collection.

When you follow an external link, the destination receives the request and may receive standard browser information. Its own terms and privacy notice apply. This site sends the origin, rather than the full article URL, on many cross-origin requests through a strict-origin-when-cross-origin referrer policy.

Cookies and browser storage

The application does not set or read cookies. It uses local storage only for the theme preference described above. Vercel documents Web Analytics as using a short-lived, request-derived identifier rather than a third-party cookie.

How long information is kept

• The theme preference remains in your browser until you clear it.
• Analytics and delivery records follow Vercel's service configuration, reporting windows, security needs, and legal obligations. Vercel says the analytics visitor-session identifier is discarded after 24 hours.
• Email is retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain appropriate records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, or comply with law, subject to provider backup and security practices.

Your choices and requests

You can block scripts or local storage through browser controls and can clear the stanley-theme value at any time. The site does not respond differently to a browser Do Not Track signal because it does not perform cross-site behavioral advertising or user-level profiling.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or other treatment of personal information. Send a request to hello@stanleycyang.com. The request may need to be verified before action is taken.

Children

This general-audience site is not directed to children under 13, and Stanley does not knowingly request personal information from children through the site. If you believe a child sent personal information by email, use the contact below to request review.
